C Is For...Chip 'N Dale Rescue Rangers!

Sometimes some crimes,
Go slipping through the cracks,
But these two,
Gumshoes,
Are picking up the slack,
There's no case too big,
No case too small,
When you need help just call,
Ch-ch-ch-Chip 'N Dale Rescue Rangers!

How catchy is that song? It's one of my favourite cartoon themes of all time and another childhood favourite that I used to watch on the weekends and I even owned some of the episodes on VHS.

Seeing how popular Disney is it was no surprise that two of their characters would star in their own cartoon series and gain much success along with Ducktales, Talespin, Darkwing Duck and Gummi Bears to name but a few.

In this series Chip & Dale form their own detective agency to battle crime. This team consists of Monterey 'Monty' Jack, an Australian mouse with a huge addiction to cheese, his sidekick, Zipper, a green housefly and finally but not least Gadget; a female mouse with expertise in mechanics and more.

Speaking of Gadget she builds the Ranger Plane the team fly around in and it's made from everyday household items such as empty plastic bottles and plungers.

The Ranger Plane
Naturally as with any old yarn you need villains for the heroes to fight against which brings me to one of the series most iconic villains- Fat Cat! A rather large cat in a purple business suit! He's always scheming and tries to bring an end to the Rescue Rangers on many occasions. Also he hates dogs! Who would have thought that?

Chip & Dale argue just as often as they solve crimes with Chip being the more sensible one and Dale being the clumsy one. Both also fight for the affections of Gadget but she hardly seems to notice.

Overall a fantastic series your kids would enjoy. I used to be glued to the TV for hours! Funny how some things never change...

For those wanting to hear the theme...

A video game for NES was also released due to the success of the cartoon which was very good but I'll cover that another time :)

  1. I never cared much for this one, as it seemed like it existed in a world with humans and talking animals. Darkwing Duck and Ducktales were in their own world.

    1. That's a good point, I never actually thought of that. I was 4 or 5 when I first saw this cartoon so naturally I enjoyed it from the get go

  2. Remember the cartoon slightly but the game more so, it was one of 'those' NES side scrolling shooters that was bad ass and wouldn't cut you any slack. Don't think we ever got past level two on it.

    1. You sure that's the same game? I'm thinking of the one where you throw apples and boxes at robot dogs etc
