My Reader Profile In OPM2 Magazine!

Yes I once featured in a magazine, perhaps not a huge article but a small section none the less! The magazine in question is Official Playstation 2 Magazine, OPM2 for short! Every issue featured a reader profile giving some basic information about yourself and what your favourite games were etc.

Usually you had to send an email to the magazine to have a chance at appearing however mine was much more simple. I was browsing the internet one boring lunchtime in work and decided to take a look at the OPM Facebook group. That was during the good old days before Facebook was banned   :(  Anyway there was a status on the page asking who wanted to be featured as the reader profile in the next magazine and the first person to reply would have the honours. I was shocked that nobody had replied and the post had been up a good while, maybe an hour, so I quickly replied and hey presto! Kim Richards (Editorial Assistant) was in charge of the profile and messaged me saying what she needed from me. So I spent the next couple of days doing just that :)

Oh and yeah apologies to the people who commented after me...they were a bit disappointed they had missed out...but I wasn't!

Funny thing is just months before I was thinking of ways I could appear in OPM2 such as writing an article or something. Strange how things work out...

I remember feeling so happy and excited about this at the time and constantly annoyed friends in the future by asking them 'do you know I've been in a magazine?' Hehe

So Issue 97 April 2008 (wow 6 years ago!) Here it is! Broken down into sections as the full picture might not be very clear.

Remember when all Facebook statuses were 'Mathew is...' well that's what the profile was based upon. John Cena owing me £20 came from watching the Royal Rumble earlier that year. A group of us usually get together to watch it and decided to have a bit of a rumble pool. We printed off the participants, put some money in and each took turns picking out random superstars. I picked Triple H who was a favourite to win it that year and he got down to the final 2! Unfortunately John Cena made a surprise early comeback and won...he was supposed to be out for a few more months :( was well gutted. Looking back though I'd definitely change this status now.

So I had to pick 4 friends whom you can see and list my favourite games. I should have included Monkey Island but didn't because I mentioned Guybrush as a favourite character. Ultros is one cool and iconic Final Fantasy character from the sixth instalment in the series! At the time I was loving Grandia II and Millenia was an awesome character.

These days I'd include GLaDos too!

As you can see from my choice of games and characters I'm a huge RPG fan!

I was also required to write a small review on the game I was currently playing which was Ratchet & Clank: Tools of Destruction. A very good and enjoyable platformer. Taking a photo of my game shop was easy enough when people weren't walking by and obstructing my view. Now for the game pet I had loads in my mind but chose Bobby Corwen as I always remembered that name from Final Fantasy 9! Who doesn't want a pet chocobo right?

My best moment in a game I struggled on. I really couldn't think or at least had too many to choose from. So once again it was Final Fantasy related and to be fair Ultimecia was one tough cookie and I was quite young at the time of playing FF8. But that description is true...I was dancing for about 30 minutes!

There's some of my interests for you. Most of them are still very true to this day.

Game character most like me? Well I didn't really have a clue because I'm quite unique but settled for Rock Lee in the end. Was quite the Naruto fan back in the day! Oh and the Forbidden Lotus? Of course that's true!!

So I was chuffed to be in a magazine and when I was in the airport a few months later the issue was on the shelf! It was strange just standing there thinking I'm in that. Ah man I could have signed it for somebody!! Hehe

When the magazine was first published my Facebook status raised a few eyebrows-

'Mathew Jones is on sale now!'

I'd love to be featured in a gaming magazine again...
