L Is For...Lara Croft!

Do you remember your first time with Miss Croft? I do! I was over a friend's who had recently picked up a copy of Tomb Raider 2 for PC and he said I'd love it and I did.

This was a game like none I'd ever seen and you just had to love those blocky graphics! We all know the story of Lara and the Tomb Raider series (the clue is in the title) and I'm guessing most of us are fans of at least one of her adventures.

In TR2 there was something for everyone! They had a T-Rex in the first level, you could drive a boat around Venice and lock the butler in the freezer, happy days! Due to Lara's adventuring among ruins and shooting many dangerous animals and thugs she soon became a gaming legend around the world and many more titles were released.  Not all were as good as TR2 mind.

That 'oh crumbs' moment

Many cosplayers have featured as Lara over the years, appearing in many gaming mags personifying girl power for the gaming community. They seemed to have a new model every year too. Angelina Jolie even starred as Lara in two feature films but they were greeted with mixed reviews. To be honest I didn't think much of them.

Then again most game-movie cross overs aren't great. But that's a post for another time.

You know what? Some gamers admitted to having a crush on Lara! Is it possible for people to crush on a video game character? I'm not so sure but many people have. Another post for another time!

The good thing about older games was that they usually contained cheats that you could activate by a code. Don't like this level? Skip it! Tired of pistols? Unlock all weapons! Fed up of dying? Become invincible! Want to see Lara naked? Blow yourself up!

Wait! What?

Do you remember that hoax? The cheat that would let you see your favourite heroine naked? Well yeah you ended up blowing her to bits instead. Crazy, insane, quite humorous.

Lara has changed quite a bit over the years with poor outings to good outings to the excellent reboot back last year. Although it didn't feel like classic Tomb Raider it was a great game.

Of course it's not all girl power when raiding tombs are involved. Nathan Drake from Uncharted is basically the male version of Miss Croft and has his fair share of adventuring for lost treasure in the world.

Hmmm...could there ever be a cross-over?

I'm looking forward to Lara's outings for many years to come!
