Bubble Bobble Commodore 64 1986

I have so many things I could write about that lately I don't actually know what to write about! Kind of having a block! Also it has been noted that I have yet to write a 'Final Fantasy' post. Don't worry, they will come.

So as I pondered on what to write about I tried thinking what was the first game I ever played? Well I can't remember exactly as I was very young but my first console was the Commodore 64 and I had a fair number of games for it. One of those was Bubble Bobble.

This game quickly became a favourite of mine. You control either Bub or Bob who happen to be two dragons apparently but I always thought they were dinosaurs. The main point of the game is to complete the 100 stages by defeating the
enemies on screen. You do this by blowing bubbles at them. Yes bubbles. The enemies become encased in the bubble and float to the top of the screen. To kill them you then must jump and burst the bubble before it pops and releases them. If you fail to do so they become angry, turn red and become much faster as will the last enemy on screen or if you take too much time completing a level. Also when you kill them they turn into items such as diamonds or cakes when they hit the ground that earn you points when collected.

You can also collect special bubbles with letters within them that spell 'extend' once you collect them all granting you an extra life.

One of my favourite collectables is the umbrella! Grabbing this allows you to skip several levels ahead which comes in handy if you manage to pass one you're not too fond of.

It really is a lot of fun but some levels can be tricky. Sometimes you are required to blow multiple bubbles to bounce on to reach a higher platform that you couldn't
before. Some enemies will also shoot fire or other projectiles at you making it difficult. Oh and if you don't finish the level in time some kind of invincible ghost appears and will come after you until you kill the last enemy or you lose a life.

Another fun part is the water bubbles! If you break these you can wash enemies away!

On the last level you face a giant sized enemy that you defeat by bursting special bubbles with lightning bolts in to fire at him.

So there it is, one of my first ever games and favourites!

Oh and how catchy is that music?
