Donkey Kong Country (TV Series)

Most of you will be familiar with the popular gaming series about an ape and his love for bananas but how many of you would have seen the TV show?

Airing sometime between 1997-2000 the series was set on Kongo Bongo island and followed the adventures of Donkey and Diddy Kong while they attempted to keep the Crystal Coconut safe from King K. Rool and his pirate minions.

The Crystal Coconut is very powerful and capable of granting wishes so no wonder why the pirates want it. Donkey Kong is named protector over the Crystal Coconut by Inka Dinka Doo, (I used to call him Inky Dinky Doo!) a temple God featured as a

stone column that often offers DK his wisdom and advice.

DK is not very smart in the cartoon but he is the strongest ape on the island. Joining him and Diddy are Cranky, Funky, Candy and Dixie. If you've played the games then you will know who these characters are, especially cranky! Watch out for that walking stick of his!

The adventures they all have are quite entertaining and a new character is introduced for the series- Bluster. He owns his own barrel factory and has a crush on Candy. I believe he acquires his own love potion to use on her in one episode.

However the main reason I chose to write about this is for the songs featured in the episodes! At least once an episode the characters will burst out into a musical number that has something to do with the storyline! These were quite random and funny and being a bit random myself I enjoyed them. And I have to admit musicals happen to be my guilty pleasure...

Donkey Kong Country is a series like no other! Both in gaming and TV.

And yes...there are bananas!
