Tiger and Bunny Vol 1

I have recently started watching this anime about these two animals that live in peace together. Nah I'm just kidding. Tiger and Bunny are the names of our two main protagonists who happen to be superheroes. In fact the majority of the characters are superheroes.

They all fight against crime to protect the citizens. Each one has a special ability and due to these powers are referred to as Nexts. Tiger for instance can gain super strength but only for 5 minutes so has to use it wisely. Other heroes include Blue Rose who can use ice and Fire emblem who (you guessed it) uses fire. Sky High, Dragon Kid, Rock Bison and Origami Cyclone also feature in the anime. The latter however is more concerned with being promoted than doing heroics so always tries to appear in the background of a camera shot.

Which brings me to the twist. The superheroes are all sponsored by different companies and when they fight crime they are filmed live on 'Hero TV' where they earn points by arresting criminals or saving citizens. Whoever has the most points by the end of a season is crowned the 'King of heroes'. The producers however seem to care more about ratings than seeing the actual city saved, often telling the heroes to hold off on the action until the commercial break is over. Crazy.

Tiger however doesn't agree and his view is that the people need saving regardless of the show so often acts on his own accord. However he isn't as popular as some of the other heroes.

Not long into the anime a new hero turns up called Barnaby Brooks Jr who it turns out has the same powers as Tiger which doesn't sit well with him. Tiger ends up being teamed up with Barnaby after losing his sponsor for the show. The two don't get along well and argue a lot. Tiger takes to calling Barnaby 'Bunny' due to the long ear pieces on his armor which Bunny isn't happy about but later learns to accept it.

Bunny acts weird at the beginning and appears to be hiding something. We soon learn he is searching for the people responsible for murdering his parents.

The first few episodes introduce the characters and it's not until episode 6 that the story starts picking up and we get introduced to the super villain known as Lunatic who may be a possible lead in the case of Bunny's murdered parents.

It's not in my top 5 anime yet but I am enjoying it and looking forward to seeing where vol 2 takes the story.
