Paranoia Agent

Allow me to begin by saying what a weird opening this anime has and it's kind of creepy too. Basically it features all the characters standing on the spot laughing. It's not my favourite opening to say the least.

Speaking of weird, Paranoia Agent is definitely that. I'd seen the box set on shelves and always wondered what it was about and then a friend of mine told me he had it so I borrowed it off him.
In short it's about a kid in golden skates who swings around a bent baseball bat like it's a feather duster. Although it's not quite as simple as that. His name is Lil Slugger and he winds up attacking random people in Tokyo but not as random as you first made to think.

It starts with Tsukiko Sagi, a designer who created a character called Maromi who is a cartoon dog. Maromi tends to pop up a lot in the series and stars in his own animated series. She ends up being attacked by Lil Slugger in a car park and winds up in hospital. So begins a series of attacks against the public.

Peter Pan's shadow has gone through some rough times
Due to Lil Slugger's size everyone thinks he's a school kid and later a small granny. Which do you think? A popular kid in school, Yuichi, becomes the target of his fellow students as he wears golden skates and is suspected of being Lil Slugger. However he is also attacked.

The series follows on like that with each episode featuring a new character that ends up getting whacked at the end. Some characters become repeat but the main ones are Tsukiko and the detectives. Also there seems to be a connection between all the victims. Each were in a state of depression at the time of the attacks making me think Lil Slugger was something paranormal...until they arrested him.

There are more twists and turns from there on out and fortunately the series only lasts 13 episodes otherwise I think it would been too drawn out. Actually it's quite refreshing watching a short anime for a change unlike those never ending Naruto and Bleach types. Speaking of which I'll be starting One Piece soon and isn't that the longest of them all???

Overall it was good and made a change from what I usually watch and thankfully the plot is wrapped up in the finale. What happens before the end does seem to come out of nowhere and is a bit over the top but you come to expect these things nowadays.

And spare a thought for poor Maromi who had to endure all this as events unfolded...

Everybody say awwwww
