Remember When The WWF Hardcore Championship Was Defended 24/7?

Yeah I know I know! It's called WWE now but back in the attitude era it was WWF and the Hardcore Championship presented viewers with some of the most craziest matches and scenarios you could watch on TV!

Back then wrestling was awesome and on a different level to what you watch today although I guess that's because WWE became a PG and any bloodshed cannot not be shown anymore. One match last year had to be stopped so one of the wrestlers could have blood wiped off his face before the match could continue. Thankfully we can all still look back and relive those classic moments such as...

Hardcore Holly and Al Snow fighting for the title in the Mississippi river! That was mental! Backstage brawls, pool cues, cheese graters, chairs, tables, bins and kendo sticks which Steve Blackman was famous for. I will always
remember him knocking Shane McMahon off a tall tower to the ground below with a kendo shot to the back. Classic moment!

Jeff Hardy also had his fair share of 'extreme' moments with Swanton bombs off the highest place he could reach and how about Cactus Jack with those thumb tacks and baseball bats wrapped in wire?

Tables! Ladders and chairs! Oh my!

Hardcore matches have always been crazy but never as crazy as when the decision was made that the title should be defended 24/7! That's when things started to get out of control and I loved it!

Now the title could change hands at any given moment. It didn't require an official match and anybody was eligible for it. Whether it was backstage, in the comfort of your own home or at an amusement park! Well as long as a referee was present.

Crash Holly held the title at the time and boy did he have his work cut out for him! He couldn't get any sleep and was constantly looking over his shoulder. He still managed to escape with the title each week though. Eventually he was pinned while he slept by Gerald Brisco after paying the A.P.A for protection. However they were more interested in beer and playing cards.

RIP Crash :(

The title changed hands a lot and Crash managed to win it back on a few occasions. Wrestlemania X8 saw the championship change many times which included comical moments such as Molly Holly, then known as Mighty Molly, knocking The Hurricane out with a frying pan to win the title.

She wasn't the only woman to hold the title either. Trish Stratus, Terri and a ho of the Godfather's have all held the title.

During his career Crash held the title 22 times! However the wrestler that held the title the most was in fact Raven.

The Hardcore Championship provided some of wrestlings best entertainment to date. Too bad they retired the belt. It was unified with the Intercontinental title.

The majority of hardcore matches take place at WWE's Extreme Rules PPV excluding Hell in a Cell, Money in the Bank and Elimination Chamber matches.

Maybe they should bring the Hardcore Championship back???
